We don’t really give shadows much thought, don’t we? They are a presence in our everyday lives yet they go easily unnoticed. Shadows can be beautiful—worthy of art in fact. They can tell or imply stories without having to show expression or anything else of that matter. The holding of hands, a couple in the rain, or a texting teen, as seen here , are all depicted in the simple form of a shadow.
Shadows are mysterious. There is little to look at, but that’s what makes them special. A picture may tell a story, but a picture of a shadow allows room for imagination. Who is this boy? What does he love most? Who does he go home to everyday? There is many possibilities– many stories that can be extracted from just one shadow. (Picture not mine)
How would a world without shadows look like? Naked, bare, and boring.
